Few weeks after Nigeria Air Force engineers unveiled the first unmanned drone built in the country, a 20-year-old man, by name Aghogho Ajine has successfully flown a drone he single-handedly built in Benin City, Edo state.
Benin’s Ring Road was Ajine’s runway as he tested the drone in front of a crowd of onlookers/spectators.
However, officials of Edo State traffic agency later tried to disrupt proceedings when Ajine was arrested for holding up traffic. The angry crowd later compelled the traffic officials to return the fine they had collected from Ajine.
Ajine, in his remarks, said that he has never been to any school, adding that he built the drone from his personal research at home.
“I am from Delta State. I have not been to any school before. My home is my school. I learned it at home from my research. I used plywood to build it,” he said.
A ‘drone’ is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), that is, an aircraft without a human pilot on board. Its flight is controlled either autonomously by computers in the vehicle or under the remote control of a pilot on the ground or in another vehicle.
